hi!! so this isn't actually the case as while gourdy was briefly mentioned in a trial, said trial had nothing to do with whether or not gourdy was "real" per se as much as. well. murder, actually. while gourdy WAS found out to be an inflatable steel samurai this was not brought up in the case at all as the veracity of gourdy wasn't really as relevant as the fact that the witness was looking for gourdy rather than at the murder she claimed to have seen. plus this was also a relatively small part of a MUCH larger trial which for those interested not only solved the dl-6 case but ALSO marked the end of prosecutor von karma's ~40 year long record and the court records are really a fascinating read through!!

This is a long and rambly discussion post for elriel nation btw so strap in

I want to preface this by kindly asking the elriel hive to not use any tags of #those ships if reblogged. I want to keep this in the elriel echo chamber. Please and thank u!

A huge part of fandom culture is to ship canonically compliant characters and crack ships. Everyone’s got them, and it’s totally normal, and it’s usually fun to engage with.

The majority of the time I have no issue with this (I am a wolfstar shipper and even though there is canonical evidence of them in the original HP books, they’re widely accepted online and balked at IRL usually due to homophobia and #that nasty, nasty woman’s bigotry), but over the last few years a certain group of crack shippers have taken it upon themselves to fly a little too close to the sun, and want to make it our (elriels) problem. I am talking about the Glees.

It’s late and this just popped into my head so I want to rant about it.

My friend who got me into ACOTAR gave me a breakdown of the ships (bc I read ToG first and went in blind. I became a doraelin shipper very early on and remained one halfway through QoS, it was a whole thing when I realized they were not end game lol), bc I asked her to after my ToG experience. She told me all the characters names and then told me about feysand and nessian endgames but didn’t mention az or elain’s situation. I asked her about it and she told me that she didn’t want to mention much about Az because “by the end of the series azriel has two options for how his story could go, elain or another way”. She shared some anti elain sentiment with me because she’s “boring and doesn’t do anything”. That went in one ear and out the other with me tbh.

When I started acowar, and feyre returned to the night court, I saw how elain and azriel were interacting and I concluded that mor was the second LI of az bc of acomaf. I was not apart of the fandom online at this point, so I was genuinely in the dark about everything around these two. I was just reading and talking to my friend about what I read. I also want to add that I still liked L*cien at this point in the series (it changed in acofas, I became apathetic towards him rather quickly when I finished reading that whiny ass convo with feyre…..I don’t play when it comes to her) but wasn’t sold on eluce because they had like one interaction and it wasn’t a great intro to a ship.

However this first meeting in acomaf….. :)

‘Can you truly fly?’ He set down his fork, blinking. I might have even called him self-conscious. He said, ‘Yes. Cassian and I hail from a race of faeries called Illyrians. We’re born hearing the song of the wind.’ ‘That’s very beautiful,’

“Rhys chuckled, Cassian’s wrath slipping enough that he grinned, and Elain, noticing Azriel’s ease as proof that things weren’t indeed about to go badly, offered one of her own as well.”

Well imagine my surprise when I finished acowar and it turns out mor (the person az has crushed on for 500 years) comes out to feyre before the book ends and she explains that she can never love az the way he loves her. After three books, and everything that happens in acowar it was clear to me that elain and azriel were being set up as each others love interests, despite the mating bond with l*cien.

After Acofas I was officially on the elriel train. I mean…

“Azriel strode to the lone window at the end of the room and peered into the garden below.”

“Azriel emerged from the sitting room, a glass of wine in hand and wings tucked back to reveal his fine, yet simple black jacket and pants. I felt, more than saw, my sister go still as he approached. Her throat bobbed.”

“But Azriel only took Elain’s heavy dish of potatoes from her hands, his voice soft as night as he said, ‘Sit. I’ll take care of it.’ Elain’s hands remained in midair, as if the ghost of the dish remained between them. With a blink, she lowered them, and noticed her apron. ‘I—I’ll be right back,’ she murmured, and hurried down the hall before I could explain that no one cared if she showed up to dinner covered in flour and that she should just sit.”

“Elain swept in, apron gone and hair rebraided. ‘Please don’t wait on my account,’ she said, taking the seat at the head of the table.”

“He [Azriel] was the portrait of relaxed, an arm braced against the carved mantel, his wings tucked in loosely, a faint grin on his face and a glass of wine in his hand. He slid his hazel eyes toward my sister without him moving an inch.”

“Azriel and Elain remained in the sitting room, my sister showing him the plans she’d sketched to expand the garden in the back of the town house, using the seeds and tools my family had given her tonight. Whether he cared about such things, I had no idea.”

(Damn the more I read elriel’s acofas moments the more I can’t help but conclude that they just hate/don’t understand introverts 😭)

Before I started SF, I decided to look at the online fandom and bitch……my jaw hit the floor with all the elain/elriel hate I saw on TT. And everyone was talking about a newer character in SF, and I was seeing the glee fan art and was like oh shit ok maybe elriel isn’t endgame.

Fast forward to SF……

‘What happened to Elain?��

“Nesta saw the blow land, like a physical impact, in Elain’s face, her posture. No one spoke, though shadows gathered in the corners of the room, like snakes preparing to strike. Elain’s eyes brightened with pain.”

……and I’m thinking ok, az obviously likes her. Then comes az’s BC. When I finished the elriel portion of the BC I was actually crying bc I was like oh fuck I really love these two….I knew it was over for me, and I was freaked out bc I thought I was going to get got with this “new ship” involving az. Plus I was thinking about elain being left alone in the dark without any explanation and feeling like an idiot for finally showing her true feelings towards him😭. It was like 3AM when I read it so I was hyper emotional lol. But then I read the rest of the BC and was still confused because I didn’t see any romantic subtext with g/wyn. I read it and saw a hurt male who couldn’t stand what he had done to elain the night before, was pissed at his brother for stopping it and making him feel bad when he was finally willing to voice what he’s been feeling for the past year or so and hating that he was shut down because we know he never voices his emotions, and couldn’t bear keeping a gift he picked out specifically for her. A necklace…..for solstice……Then I finished SF as a whole, and still, was confused as to why glee is a ship. Nearly all of their conversations were centered around training, and Sarah didn’t use any descriptors in their encounters that elude to any romance or mutual interest. (Btw I have a whole take on rhys’ part in that BC and I think a lot of ppl are dense and don’t understand what he was going through in that book but I can save that for another time)

Cassian and Feyre have more chemistry than those too lol.

I then talked to my friend about the these ships (elriel, eluce, and glee) ((i didn’t talk about eluce much in this post but that’s a lifeless ship too. I mean…..she can’t stand that red head anyway soooo)), and I said “I’m an elriel through and through. Idc that eluce are claimed to be mates you can tell she does not like him. also glee makes no sense to me.” Not verbatim but you get the point. My friend is very sensible so by the end of our convo, she told me that she’ll accept whatever way Sarah goes and that she’ll give elain a chance when her book comes out.

But isn’t that what all of this shit is about in the end: unjustified dislike/distain/hate for elain? That’s certainly how is appears to me. You cannot look me in the eyes and tell me that you love elain if you ship her with a male whom she has expressed, on multiple occasions, zero interest in AND becomes a shell of herself when he’s around because she just doesn’t want to interact with him. (I want to reiterate that I don’t hate L, I don’t think he’s awful or anything. elain just doesn’t want to know him. And that’s her right.) The glees don’t like her bc she doesn’t fit their stereotype for what they want in an FMC and therefore, for azriel. Which is why they have been chirping that the next book will be azriel’s. Not elain’s….WHAT??? You sound fucking crazy. The eluces (even though they claim they like her) dislike her so much that they go on and on about how she needs to grovel and apologize to the male they like because HE deserves to be happy……the same male who she associates with one of the most traumatic days of her life. Who also has not apologized to her for the part he played in that day, but I digress.

I say all that to point out that Glee specifically is in the crack ship category. No canonical evidence in the text can be used to claim they are ‘mates’ or endgame or anything more than acquaintances. And that’s fine, but don’t act as though they’re to be taken seriously as a canon ship when there’s no evidence to support it. Don’t boldly claim that azriel “has two love interests” when he literally doesn’t. He can’t sleep because of elain. He can’t stop thinking about her. He’s short with his family and others around him the days and weeks following solstice. His shadows threaten to strike nesta when she hurts elain and causes her pain. He doesn’t assign his spies to watch L*cien in acofas because he doesn’t want to know if he’s trying to court elain. He goes full lethal when he hears she may have been hurt. He follows the sound of her laugh to see what caused it. He goes on a suicide mission to save her. They communicate through looks alone when their family is around. Have you read an SJM book before? This is how she sets up her relationships. Like, holy fuck.

You cannot claim elriel is a crack ship because they have had background build up that both FMCs in their respective books have noticed and commented on. Cassian has noticed it too DESPITE not being hyper aware of what’s going on with az in SF. (referencing the scene in SF where elain tells everyone at family dinner about nesta’s love for dancing and the ball story from when they were human).

This ship war shit is fucking crazy because really this should only be between elriel nation and the eluces. Anyway, I’m over dealing with the fever dream brigade and their hallucinations. They’re going to come crashing down like Icarus when the elriel bible release day arrives and all our suffering will finally come to an end.

Then after that I’ll need to defeat the tamlin redemption arch threats, bc that is not a claim, that’s a fuckin threat and I won’t stand for it. But let’s tackle one problem at a time.

I haven't drawn anything this year-- oh but hmm, I could do a quick edit, here -

Tadah! For anyone who hasn't already seen it, we got those 50 reblogs to make Warden shirtless! A pure version without the christmas lights went up yesterday, just scroll down my blog a bit or check out the #ro: warden hashtag.

I'm pleased with how much mileage I'm already getting from this picture, ha.

Anyway.

Seems like I'm gonna be focused on writing new scenes and drawing expressions for a while. They're some of the more tedious tasks for me, so I'll certainly be looking for every opportunity to do other things on the side - like coding.

Today I've decided that the LI sprites should have their eyebrows on a separate layer from the rest of their face, to offer me the greatest amount of variety in creating new expressions - and I've come up with a naming system for it, too!

I'm looking forward to implementing this. Eyebrow shapes have much, much less variety compared to mouth shapes, so I might even finish drawing every possible eyebrow for every LI sometime soon. I've already gotten a strong start with Warden and Mia's eyebrows.

Speaking of, I did turn in more expressions over on Ko-Fi!

I'm realizing that in the set dedicated to Dia, Warden and Mia have the same mouth shape on the upper right side... A fascinating subconscious decision on my part.

Outside of art, I did write... once. Er, it went pretty okay. I'm usually the biggest hater of my first drafts.

I think my goal is gonna be to show off the abilities of all the characters as equally as I can; Warden and Jade have had their time to shine (during the job fair and flying MC home, respectively), and I think MC, Griffin, and Mia are gonna be queued up next.

I'll put the rest under a cut for potential spoilers and further rambling - as always, if you don't see the cut, make sure to check out my blog directly!

I have a good idea of what I wanna do with Griffin (it may or may not involve obliterating your rent debt, and I may or may not have written about that in the first-draft-I-don't-hate).

I've been thinking that this scene would involve a change of clothes btw, and did some fashion concepts for Griffin that I also don't hate;

I'm not super sure what I'm gonna do for Mia's eventual ~special show-off scene~, but I'm sure it will come to me.

For MC, I want to show off her relationship with the city, and showcase how qualified she is for the job in a low-key way. I recently discussed with a friend how Men in Black is a huge source of inspiration for me... Y'all know the scene where Will Smith has his interview and did things differently from all the other candidates?? I kinda wanna capture that vibe...!

And ah... I think that's about it, Herotome-wise.

Wudge-wise, honesty hour - I've had ssssome mild health concerns this year.

I don't want to go into detail; I want to say it's been like... nothing life threatening, thankfully, but a lot of small physical inconveniences that pile up and make it harder to concentrate.

I did rest a lot last week so no worries. <3 It's just that parts of my body have been weird and annoying, and I think it's helpful to acknowledge that the flesh prison can be a weird and annoying place. But I value it! And I'm doing my best to take care of it. Health comes first, etc, etc.

With this new year, I hope you guys take care of yourselves as best as you can, too. The person who's most qualified to take care of you is you!!!

I really hate the idea of bothering you, but I'd really appreciate it if you could give tips and advice for new users like me. I'm still new to tumblr, sorry and thank you in advance.

i hope your inspiration goes well! i haven't been great about reblogging other people's work lately, but i do actually read a lot of stuff, particularly in the gojo/yandere gojo tags.

that's my number one piece of advice btw - tag the shit out of all your stuff. tumblr tags can be forgiving or a bit stiff depending on how a person is searching for fics.

literally search for an example of the kind of fic you're writing. take a top example with a whole bunch of notes. look at the tags on it. often it'll be something like:

fandom, fandom x reader, fandom x yn, fandom x you, char, character full name, char x reader, char x you, char smut, char x reader smut

and just go. slap on all the tags. make sure you don't include anything inaccurate though! i do also know some writers, particularly yandere ones, who write fics and then tag all the applicable characters, which is a great way to show up in a log of searches.

basically the fic won't contain a character's name - if it's for a male character, the character will just be "he/him" in the story. and then in the tags (or in the body of the fic) the writer will list character who they think fits the archetype.

@yanderenightmare does these really well (they also write fics with specific characters in them), and as fate would have it, they've also given out writing on tumblr advice:

on search keywords - i've always found searching on tumblr to be spotty, so those tags are kind of my attempt to have some organization.

there are other blogs that do it (tumblr's huge, there's always someone doing something) but it's not necessarily common. #lemon as a smut tag and #answered asks and #BYHTD as filtering tags are kind of things that just came up when i was thinking "how will i find this if i want to look back on it later?".

i will also mention, i am by no means some particularly great tumblr power user or anything. i just started writing my silly little fics way back in june sjkfglhsg honestly i'm surprised by some of the attention i've been getting! i figured a lot of my stuff was kinda niche!

more advice. make a masterlist pretty early on and update it like... every few weeks or so. try to make a schedule to post and keep to it - for this blog i try to post a fic/content every wednesday, although i'm thinking about doing twice a week or an odd middle update every now and then.

do not be scared of other tumblrs. make friends. reblog their stuff! people really like it when you do that! if you see a fic you like, reblog it, and leave a comment in the tags or the reblog, even if it's just "my favorite part was X". they may never interact with you (such is the nature of online socialization), but you gotta be the change you wish to see in the world.

writer friends are a super valuable resource. they can help you come up with ideas, cheer you on, workshop stuff with you, and just generally make you feel good about writing when your juice is failing you.

i know MANY writers who go through periods of just thinking they're bad writers and all their work is bad, etc. it's a struggle and having other writers to tell you "i don't think it's bad" does a LOT.

in any case, from one writer to another writer (hopeful), good luck!

Can I ask you where have you found inspiration for your art? For example I've noticed you have a very specific (and beautiful) way you draw jewelry and clothing. The shapes are very organic yet grounded at the same time, give a bit of a Nausicaä vibes, as well as art noveau meets iron age.

This is like when one of you made a playlist inspired by my art... (I still have that saved btw! 🧡 And I still cannot believe!!). But what are my inspirations hmmmmmmm many! Idk even what all I have inhaled into my art but I try to list something (this got long so rest under cut):

Nature 🌿 I love both mundane (sparrows, plants growing from asphalt cracks, moss covered street signs... the little details) and grand formations that fill me with awe. There's something about things so vast that take my breath away. Like oceans, mountains, high cliffs, endless tundra, wind so strong you could lean against it, ancient stone that has been scraped visible by massive sheets of ice thousands of years ago. Most often I'm drawing inspiration from nature familiar to me, that being Nordic/Scandinavian ones.

Stories! I love making stories, I think they help me grasp and go over my thoughts. I love pouring myself into my characters, it makes them feel both personal but also makes it easier to talk about myself to my fellow storytellers. I'd love to do a long graphic novel or write a book one day, but I also love making ttrpg stories just for and with our little group 🧡 For a long time I felt kinda bad that I wasn't doing "real art" that wasn't just illustrations of my characters. But then I realised doing art for arts sake doesn't really inspire me. I don't want to do art that I'd think would be easily consumable nor do I have any great performance to create with my art. I just love to illustrate stories and tell stories through my art and I think that's great! I still love seeing and experiencing artworks that aren't this illustrative, I just don't have the motivation to do that myself. But I can get really excited of works like Emma Jääskeläinen's granite sculptures!

Other artists! There are two categories I think: 1) those whose work I've seen (usually irl) and whose technique or themes or symbolism facinates me. I usually don't want to create similar art, or replicate their style, or medium even. But there's something about them, a feeling of awe or they feel formidable. Or there's something clever about them that lets me have this sense of epiphany. For example, Jääskeläinen who I already mentioned, Marcel Dzama, Merja Palin, Helena Vaari, Marika Mäkelä, to name a few I've seen lately-ish. And then 2) there are artists whose stories and/or style inspires me and influences my art. One of the biggest inspirations to my softer line art style was and is @albabbgg. @serpentface has some really cool worldbuilding and designs, I think they were also a great influence to how I draw bodies these days. @wiltkingart has also very cool shapes and genders in his paintings. @sanctus-ingenium 's stories and art have been a huge inspiration lately. And to list a few others now that I started: @pangur-and-grim/@greer-art, @beidak-art, @elemei, @emilylorange, @pansylair, @cy-lindric, @psrj, @lokorum

7. As a writer, what do you appreciate the most when someone is reading your work?

hmmm for me its definitely having others reblog my work w notes or tags. a few people have even annotated my fics which is proably the biggest compliment i could ever receive! i appreciate it sm and it makes feel like those 50 something or more hours i spend writing is worth it all :D

11. What is your process when you are writing or reading?

for writing: i tend to brainstorm a concept first then choose which member i feel like would fit the fic the most. i also base a lot of my fics off real life experiences that i had (seungcheol's letters and in front of me being a few of those fics)

for reading: i don't really have a process per se, i kinda just read whatever im feeling in that moment hehe

So anyways, I’ve recently started a fiction story that I was looking forwards to publishing, and it sort of made me realize that I really enjoy writing. Honestly though, I don’t have a clue as to where to start. And so I came to tumblr, and you (and your ADDICTING fics) were actually what sort of introduced me to tumblr? So I guess you’ve been something of an inspiration to me, i don’t know if that’s creepy or not but whatever.

Anyways, i was wondering if you could spare some tips on how to get started? Literally anything would be a huge help.

Hello! Thank you, I'm honored that you ask. Doesn't bother me at all of course. I wish I could be more helpful. I'm not sure if you're looking for writing tips or tumblr tips, so please feel free to follow with more detail. Btw I've been on tumblr less than a year and writing fic for less than a year so in some ways I am talking out of my ass :) but I'm honored you value my input. I have some writing tips here. And writing dark here. But writing is really personal and everyone has their own style so all i can really do is say what works for me.

I write what I want to write. I write best when I write what I feel like writing.

I draw inspiration from the source material as a starting point rather than characterization in other fics. I also don't go out of my way to try to be super different.

I try to describe what's happening in my my head and let it flow without worrying about "writing well."

I don't like to force my writing if it isn't flowing. sometimes i do try to force myself, but it rarely works, often wastes time, and can sometimes make things worse.

I don't tend to use outlines, but it seems to work very well for a lot of people and I wonder if it would help me. the most I do is post-it notes. but most of the time, not even that. for me before i start, if anything, normally it's just scraps and tidbits of word vomit.

For TUMBLR tips, I'd say:

look at the tags used by people who are posting similar content. explore those tags to see which are the most relevant and popular. only use tags that are relevant. put the most important ones at the front.

include warnings about anything explicit. it took me a minute to realize warnings are also used to entice/preview "the good stuff."

definitely use the "read more" function in your post, or people won't reblog it.

interact with other blogs in the fandom. you'll begin to see familiar usernames and might make friends.

If you write something and people beg for another part, that's a compliment, you don't have to take it as pressure, it's up to you what to do. I say this as someone who almost always folds but one of these days I might not feel like it.

Oh, well... not sure if you know, but I write the fic "Love the rolling thunder" (currently on hiatus), which was/is written while the episodes air(ed), and in-between those episodes.

I remember looking up "Iolanta" because I did not know it, and humming to myself, because, you know, fitting.

And then... the A Doll's House mention. Didn't know that either (bad me, I know), so, again, looked it up. Wanted to understand the Christmas tree reference Lestat makes there after all.

And there... it kinda clicked.

What clicked is that we see a tale, not a show. That this is full of things beyond the range of "normal television". That they really, really, really dug into the story and pulled out the subtext and meta level to it's own hyper-level, in a way.

Now, I'm not a literature expert, nor a theater buff. But I'm a software-engineer, I analyze things for a living *laughs*, and IDK, it just clicked then.

This is not a normal TV show.

And we are not shown the truth. And I... kinda stopped seeing it as "the truth" then. 🤷🏽‍♀️

It's been a while... sorry for answering several months later.

I was done with tumblr for a while actually. When I got all those responses for that post I found out that, unfortunately, I'm one of those snowflakes who can't handle negative comments on the Internet very well. For a little while I got kinda paranoid about it - those reblogs made me feel very stupid even though I knew that most of their "takes" are just a huge pile of bullshit. And I just don't take feeling stupid well enough (thanks to my classmates for this trauma).

(I can see where I could be wrong in my take depending on the future books. I felt kinda in the wrong in the start but I stopped paying much attention to those reblogs after I saw the words "Sansa is classist and sexist"🙃 and a bunch of other antisansa shit. It still kinda hurt though. I even stopped my asoiaf reread because I couldn't concentrate on books, it kept reminding me of all the hate.)

The whole situation made me feel sick of the Internet culture where you can shit on a person all you want even though all they did is writing their theories and opinions. (Like really, even though I've seen a tremendous load of posts I don't agree with - I've never shitted on people like that in reblogs or fought in comment section, I just don't understand it). And unfortunately, Tumblr is epitomy of this unhealthy and toxic culture.

In addition, just at that time (literally the same day) my life got an unexpected turn so even though I got over that thing my hands were still full with all the life stuff and my tumblr routine was long gone.

Long story short, in a few days I'm moving to another city and starting a whole new chapter in my life all because that one day I saw all the negativity I got and thought "well, my day can't get any worse".

I've seen your ask much earlier though - and I've felt so much better about the whole situation. I think I was able to get over this all thanks to you.

My faves are very varied, ranging from Maomao from The apothecary diaries, to Iroh from ATLA or Mettaton from Undertale. Or Judeau from Berserk (my pfp). These four couldn't be more different and yet I really like them.

Though nuance and good writing are obviously needed, I'm a bit weak for certain tropes. They're sometimes general, sometimes targeted towards some examples.

"Beware the nice ones" : both gentle and threatening because of their strength and/or their status. It's really interesting to see one use their power for good or be a wholesome person. Not falling into despair and rage, or if they did at one point, get up, stay hopeful and just be the best person they can be.

Gentle giants : a subsection of the former. They have a huge "dad energy" and I'm all for it. They're protectors and often very generous and chill. Also works for women.

Agent peacock : and the female equivalent of that (femme fatale but not sexualized). It's basically a charismatic "pretty boy" style characters who's still very confident and competent. Often vain and charismatic, they still keep the "cool factor" and are useful. Bonus point if they're into drama.

No-nonsense characters : they're here, they're competent and they do the job. They stay calm when others panic. They may have some dark secrets or are just a bit grumpy. Either way, they still have a big heart. Bonus point if they're rarely weird and silly too.

Protective parent figures : Idk, seeing them so engaged for their child makes me respect them a lot. Seeing them do the most and be present. It's more interesting if we don't go the cliché way and full-on helicopter parent or "5 min sacrifice at the beginning".

Fluffy healthy couples : I'm not a fan of toxic ships. Be it wlw, mlm or straight, idk, seeing a character caring about their partner, being a bit shy but trying to make them happy, or simply living together, soulmates style. I INSTANTLY like the relationship. They work together and I root for them. Even if they're scheming or doing bad things together XD . I also love the platonic equivalent of that.

Other cases : rays of sunshine, supportive best boys/girls, spunky roaring warriors, chaotic gremlins, tricksters

If one goes over my faves, mythology or fandom, a lot fit at least one of these boxes XD . I won't mention them all because there's a lot of them. Just look at my fandom tags.

Otherwise, they go in the "I love hating you" box. Even if they fit one of the aformentioned tropes.

Last precision : I have very little villain faves, most of which are redeemed. I'm not that big on straight up villainous characters. My faves can be flawed or do bad things, that I'll acknowledge, but they should at least be a little likeable or morally gray.

Edit : I don't hate villains and I like seeing them in the media. Well-written ones can be terrifying or pathetic or anything else, it depends on the intention. But I won't root for them.
